Skin Preparation and Base Steps Before Makeup
For perfect makeup, the initial stage of prepping your skin is more important than anything else. The essence of K-Beauty lies in a finish that adheres naturally, as if it were your own skin. If your skin isn't sufficiently hydrated and smoothed, makeup can look cakey or break down quickly.
The Importance of Hydration
- After washing your face, use a toner to smooth the skin texture and remove any residue.
- Use a hydrating essence or ampoule to replenish moisture from within the skin.
- Apply a thin layer of moisturizing cream over the entire face and allow it to absorb completely.
How to Use Sunscreen
- Sunscreen is the first step of makeup and an essential process for skin protection.
- Choose a lotion-like, lightweight formula that leaves little to no white cast and apply it thoroughly.
- Wait for the sunscreen to fully absorb before applying base products to prevent pilling.
If you apply foundation while skincare products haven't fully absorbed, your makeup is likely to clump. It is recommended to leave at least a one-minute interval between each product application. For dry skin, mixing in a drop of facial oil or using a hydrating primer to fill in pores can be beneficial. This foundational work is a key factor in determining the longevity of your makeup.
