The Start of Skincare: Proper Cleansing Methods
The first step of a healthy skincare routine is removing impurities from the skin's surface without irritation. Double cleansing is very popular in Korea, as it effectively washes away makeup, fine dust, and debris. The key is to use an oil-based cleanser, such as an oil or balm, to melt away makeup, followed by a water-based foam cleanser to remove any residue.
The Principle of Double Cleansing
- Cleansing Oil: Apply to a dry face to gently dissolve sebum and makeup.
- Emulsification: Add a small amount of water to turn the oil milky, allowing it to bind with impurities.
- Foam Cleanser: Lather sufficiently to thoroughly wash away oil residue and skin impurities.
Precautions for Cleansing
Cleansing should be done while protecting the skin barrier. Avoid water that is too hot, as it can strip away excessive natural oils and cause dryness; lukewarm water is best. When rubbing your face, use your fingertips to massage in gentle circular motions to minimize skin irritation. After washing, avoid rubbing your face harshly with a towel; instead, gently pat it dry to help maintain skin texture.
